In Doug’s mind materialism and faith in God are not mutually exclusive concepts. He thinks that such approach might be achieved if the faithful accepts the concepts of Material God, in addition to its spiritual counterpart, and Information. Due to being a highly organized Information, a semi physical entity that can influence and concentrate scattered information borrowed from spiritual God (total Information) probably via gravitation, Doug believes that all these aptitudes bring Material God much closer to us compared to Spiritual God of the traditional Christian religions. Doug’s idea relating to organized Information reflecting life’s experiences that may be called consciousness or soul that survives the individual can also be viewed as a semi-materialistic approach to the possibility of the afterlife.
On their part, materialists must acknowledge that scientific tools will never be good enough to determine what the inflation, i.e. creation of the Universe, started from. This might lead to a closer examination of the fundamental particles for signs if they are composed of even smaller components like strings as suggested by others and also mentioned by Doug as a possibility.
Another area where materialist scientists can’t get ahead is consciousness. Perhaps there is a fundamental problem with these scientists’ approaches, and they may want to consider Doug’s idea, or something similar, about how life experiences might be stored in Information units.
